Every state sets a deadline for returning a security deposit, and most add a penalty when a landlord misses it or keeps money without a good reason. Pick your state and the letter quotes that state's statute, the deadline and what the landlord risks, using rules we have checked against the law itself. Add your move-out date and the tool tells you whether the deadline has already passed.
You get the letter as an email you can send straight away, as text to copy, or as a PDF to mail with tracking. If the landlord still doesn't pay, the letter is your evidence in small claims court that you tried to settle first.
